A Discrete Model for Inelastic Deformation of Thin Shells

چکیده
We introduce a method for simulating the inelastic deformation of thin shells: we model plasticity and fracture of curved, deformable objects such as light bulbs, egg-shells and bowls. Our novel approach uses triangle meshes yet evolves fracture lines unrestricted to mesh edges. We present a novel measure of bending strain expressed in terms of surface invariants such as lengths and angles. We also demonstrate simple techniques to improve the robustness of standard timestepping as well as collisionresponse algorithms.

Due to the importance of determining the pelastic manner of thin wall shells against the explosive loading, up to the maximum process of deformation, examining the manner of this kind of structures is on the agenda.concidering repeated reaction of explosive shock wave from two ends and the walls of the structure, pressure distribution derived from explosion of explosive in closed shells, is too...
متن کاملTime-Discrete Geodesics in the Space of Shells
Building on concepts from continuum mechanics, we offer a computational model for geodesics in the space of thin shells, with a metric that reflects viscous dissipation required to physically deform a thin shell. Different from previous work, we incorporate bending contributions into our deformation energy on top of membrane distortion terms in order to obtain a physically sound notion of dista...
متن کاملKoiter's Thin Shells on Catmull-Clark Limit Surfaces
We present a discretization of Koiter’s model of elastic thin shells based on a finite element that employs limit surfaces of Catmull–Clark’s subdivision scheme. The discretization can directly be applied to control grids of Catmull–Clark subdivision surfaces, and, therefore, integrates modeling of Catmull–Clark subdivision surfaces with analysis and optimization of elastic thin shells. To test...
متن کاملStudy of Energy Dissipation in Accordion Thin-Walled Tubes under Axial Cyclic Loads
Energy absorber systems like metallic dampers for controlling the structural vibrations due to earthquake have witnessed considerable development in the past few decades. Also there are some studies on the energy absorption of thin-walled tubes due to impact load. Thin-walled tubes have a large deformation capacity and are suitable energy absorbers in the structure during an earthquake provided...

In this paper a study on the vibration of thin cylindrical shells with ring supports and made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) composed of stainless steel and nickel is presented. The properties are graded in the thickness direction according to a volume fraction power-law distribution. The cylindrical shells with ring supports which are arbitrarily placed along the shell and impose zero ...
